Migrating From Yotpo To FastComments

We've had a steady stream of Shopify merchants asking about Yotpo alternatives and how to move their product reviews off the platform. This post covers what to look for in a Yotpo alternative, how the FastComments migration works end to end, and what changes once you're on FastComments.

Who This Post Is For

This guide is for ecommerce merchants and store owners running Yotpo for product reviews who want a faster, lighter, or more affordable alternative. Most of the merchants we talk to are on Shopify, but FastComments works the same on WooCommerce stores, BigCommerce, custom storefronts, and headless setups. The migration process is the same regardless of where your storefront runs.

Why To Move

  • FastComments is fast. Yotpo loads almost a megabyte of JavaScript and multiple third-party round-trips which can make product pages slow.
  • Reviews don't appear live. A shopper submits a review, the page tells them to check their inbox, and the review only shows up after a delay.
  • FastComments offers more linear pricing with no feature gates behind tiers.

FastComments serves star ratings and review threads in a single ~30KB widget that updates in real time. New reviews stream into every open page the moment they post, no reload needed! Our traffic-based plan covers ratings, AI moderation, multi-state moderation, the Questions feature, and full data export. Many customers only pay a dollar, with per-admin and moderator seat pricing available for larger orgs.

A Live Experience

The FastComments Summary Widget is live, just like our comments and chat widgets. If a review is left, the ratings update immediately without refresh. This can be useful for product launches.

FastComments also works outside Shopify if you ever decide to move, or run different stores across different platforms.

Yotpo vs FastComments At A Glance

A quick side-by-side of the dimensions merchants ask about when they're shopping for a Yotpo alternative:

  • Widget weight: Yotpo ships 800KB+ of JavaScript across several round-trips. FastComments ships 38KB in one round-trip.
  • Live reviews: Yotpo requires a page reload to show new reviews. FastComments pushes new stars and comments to every open page in real time.
  • Pricing: Yotpo prices by review volume across tiered plans with feature gates. FastComments prices flat by page traffic and includes every feature on every plan.
  • Photo and video reviews: Both support them.
  • Question and answer reviews: Yotpo sells Q&A as an add-on module. FastComments includes it through the built-in Questions feature.
  • AI moderation: Yotpo offers basic auto-publish rules. FastComments includes AI agents with configurable per-comment scoring and audit logs, as well as manual and automatic publishing configuration.
  • Data export: Yotpo gates full export behind higher tiers. FastComments includes full CSV and JSON export on every plan.
  • Migration from a competitor: Yotpo charges for migration concierge. FastComments handles it free through a support ticket.

How Migration Works

Yotpo doesn't have a clean self-serve export that maps cleanly into a public importer schema, so we handle Yotpo migrations through our support team rather than the standard import page. The end-to-end process is:

  1. Open a support ticket with us and let us know you're moving from Yotpo.
  2. We send you instructions for exporting your data out of Yotpo. The export covers reviews, ratings, photos, verified-buyer flags, and threaded replies.
  3. You send the export back to us in the ticket.
  4. We map every field into FastComments and load it into a staging tenant tied to your account, so you can preview the result before anything goes live on your store.
  5. When you approve the preview, we promote the data to your production tenant.

Most Yotpo migrations finish inside a week from the time we receive the export.

What Gets Preserved

The mapping covers everything Yotpo stores per review:

  • Star ratings and the aggregated product rating
  • Review text, threaded replies, and reply timestamps
  • Photo and video attachments (we move the files to our CDN)
  • Verified-buyer flags
  • Customer identifiers, so review counts on customer profiles match what they were before
  • Submission timestamps, so the chronological order on your product pages is preserved

If you have Yotpo questions and answers, those map onto FastComments' Questions feature on the same product threads.

Replacing The Widget

Once the data is across, swap the Yotpo widget on your product page template for the FastComments widget. We're a Shopify app, so for most stores this is a one-line block in your theme. The install wizard covers Shopify, headless setups, and the major front-end frameworks. We can help with that.

You can run Yotpo and FastComments side by side on a single product temporarily if you want to compare the look and feel before fully cutting over.

Common Questions About Switching From Yotpo

Is FastComments cheaper than Yotpo?

In nearly every case, yes. FastComments runs on one flat traffic-based plan that includes every feature, where Yotpo charges per review across tiered plans and adds overage fees. Run the numbers for your store on the pricing calculator.

Can I keep my Yotpo reviews when I switch?

Yes. The migration preserves every review, every rating, every photo and video attachment, every threaded reply, and every verified-buyer flag. Submission timestamps come across so the chronological order on your product pages stays the same.

Does FastComments work outside Shopify?

Yes. FastComments works on Shopify, WordPress, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, custom storefronts, and headless setups. The install wizard covers the major front-end frameworks.

Can I run Yotpo and FastComments side by side first?

Yes. Mount both widgets on a single product page during the staging preview to compare how they look and feel on your storefront, then remove Yotpo when you're ready to cut over fully.

What about Yotpo Loyalty, Yotpo SMS, or Yotpo Email?

FastComments is a reviews and live commenting platform. It does not handle loyalty programs, SMS marketing, or email marketing campaigns. If you use those Yotpo products today, you'll want to keep them or move them to a dedicated tool when you switch reviews to FastComments.

Note that we'd like to build out this functionality, and if you're interested in being a beta tester for these we will gladly add this to our short term roadmap.

Will my star ratings still show on my product pages?

Yes. The FastComments widget renders the aggregate star rating, the individual review stars, and the review count in the same places the Yotpo widget did. Each review's HTML is structured so search engines can pick up the rating data on the page.

Will switching from Yotpo to FastComments affect my SEO?

If the URLs of your product pages stay the same, no. The review content moves to the new widget on the same URLs, and search engines see the same products with the same reviews on the same pages. If you're changing URLs as part of the move, send us the old and new URL pairs in the support ticket so the importer can map them..

Is there a free trial?

Every FastComments plan starts with a free trial. You can create an account, run the import preview, and see the widget on a staging tenant before you commit to a paid plan.
